Marriage Equality March

One year ago today my partner and I participated in the Marriage Equality March on Washington DC. And here we are a year later still waiting for the state of New York, supposedly always ahead of the curve in civil rights, to allow us to marry right here in our home state.

A protest by Californians occurred the day before the march outside the Washington Monument.

Did marching do any good? Who’s to say, really. I’d like to think it activated thousands of LGBTs to be more vocal about our struggle for civil equality. And while it was personally thrilling to be there and be involved, a year later I remain skeptical of America’s ability to look past their learned prejudices.

I still believe in my heart that Marriage Equality isn’t a matter of if. Its a matter of when.
