My Very Own Death Ray
The news story about the Vegas Vdara Hotel & Spa’s “Death Ray” effect reminded me of these photos I took last summer. We live in a glass and steel high rise surrounded by other glass and steel high rises. This creates a sunshine echo chamber effect early in the morning and at sunset when the sun is low in the sky.

Here the sun is setting in the west, reflecting off our building, bouncing off other buildings and coming right back at the lens.

All of these reflective surfaces add to a heat bubble around dense development called Urban Heat Island Effect.

It may make city life a little hotter but at least it also makes for a beautiful sunset.
