Testing the SteadiCam Smoothee for iPhone 4

Made in a few hours from footage shot using Tiffen’s new Steadicam Smoothee for iPhone 4. It was my first time using it and I got better as the afternoon progressed. Plus the rig kept getting buffeted by the wind. But there are some incredibly smooth shots. Looking forward to using it more!

The Terrible Secret of Space

My partner and I are the original makers of this Internet hit from the year 2000. It was featured on TechTV, in Yahoo magazine and Ariel Kaminer of the New York Times called the piece a “sui generis art form.”

The success of what was originally a Flash video (over two million views in the first year posted) led to me going to film school and building what has become a fulfilling and successful career as a filmmaker. Its totally amateurish and scrappy but also still watchable.

My Friday Morning Commute

Lifesize Bumblebee Autobot Build

This three and a half minute video encapsulates the five-plus-hour process of erecting an 18-foot tall, 3,700 pound lifesized replica of the Transformers Autobot Bumblebee. The maquette travels in three separate crates on a flatbet truck. It takes several forklifts, a lot of manpower, a few big wrenches and some heavy jiggling to put it together.

Shot by a good friend & frequent colleague and edited by me.

Disneyland Pastiche

We took two friends with us on our last October Disney trip. Every day for the last week before we left I’d send them a bunch of photos of specific rides, themed buildings/lands, characters, etc. to get them even more excited. On the last day before our trip I sent them a link to this YouTube video. I did a quick edit of some of the best footage from our trip to Anaheim a year earlier… and because I didn’t have much time I just used the natural recorded sound and long, lingering clips to provide a more “you’re there” experience. This is the video:

MickeyTron 2008 – A DisneyWorld Vacation

Here’s a video I put together of our latest DisneyWorld trip.

Halloween Scarecrow Project

In October of 2005 my partner, my Dad and I built a gauntlet of scarecrows for a Halloween display at my parent’s house in Oklahoma. Here’s a video of process and the result. We spent about a hundred dollars and two days and had a lot of fun. There’s a gap in the DIY aspect of the video because I came down with a bad flu and stopped filming for a day or so.
